American Drag Racing Author: Robert GenatColourful, entertaining and informative - a five star read.Robert Genat has written many books on both drag racing and hot rodding and this is by far his best. Unlike the NHRA's own disappointing history " Fast Lane" which is spoilt by its selective rewriting of drag racings first 50 years(Don Garlits does feature here) - "American Drag Racing" gives an independant account with the enthusiasm of a fan.

Genat focuses on the early days with an emphasis on the sixties and seventies when racers and cars
had a greater sense of individuality. Giving equal coverage to the evolution of all the principle classes of race car including fuel altereds and stockers.

But the crowning glory of the book is the excellent use and range of the photos used which enhance the read and are evocative of the unique character of drag racings formative years. The cover alone tells you all you need to know.

Techno-junkies are well served by a number of side bars and highlight sections which are well placed and do not detract from the overall flow.Although anyone interested in a more indepth look at the technical history of the sport should read "High Performance" by Robert C. Post.

The format is reader friendly being smaller in size than the usual coffee table format. This can be read without the loss of feeling to your arms.

As a drag racing fan of over twenty five years, with many books on the subject I can recommend
" American Drag Racing" without hesitation. more...
